About Me
I'm Dr Adam Newton. My main academic training is in the area of palaeoanthropology. From 2002-13 at the University of Liverpool, UK, I first completed a Master's degree in 'Early Hominid Studies' and then under the supervision of Prof John Gowlett obtained a PhD in which I used computer modelling to investigate the interaction between tool use and diet in the early hominins Homo habilis and Paranthropus. I studied Environment and Development at undergraduate level and so have a broad academic background.
As the title of my PhD suggests, my main area of interest is the origins of the genus Homo and the diet and subsistence of the Robust australopithecines. However, I have a much broader interest on the evolution of life on earth, including the mechanisms of evolutionary change and how mass extinctions have shaped evolution.
I taught for a number of years while studying at the University of Liverpool. I taught lithic archaeology and human osteology to undergraduate students, and I also continuing education courses on human evolution at the Centre for Lifelong Learning.
Based in Berlin, Germany, since 2011, from 2014-2016 I worked at the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin as I foreign language secretary for the Novel Materials research group in the Department of Physics. In 2017 I became a freelance provider of online courses, setting up the evo-learn platform which went online in September 2017 (I'm busy devising new courses at the moment). Though my main area of expertise is in human evolution, I've always been fascinated by evolutionary history in general and so came up with the idea of offering online courses to anyone who's simply interested in learning more about evolution. Additionally, I am also a freelance provider proofreading services, mostly of academic texts, though I will take on other projects too. I have several experience of proofreading of academic texts from my time as a study assistant for students with a disability at the University of Liverpool and when I worked for the Novel Materials group at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. From my time at the Humboldt-Universität I gained further experience of proofreading physics academic texts. So if you need any help please get in touch!
